An ode to the Hawaiian shirt

Nice weather means we all, men and women, turn to color.

For men, this year, we are announcing...the return of the Hawaiian shirt (or the aloha-shirt).

I agree that the Hawaiian shirt can make a statement, or not. Either the man wearing it is going through a midlife crisis, either he pulls it off brilliantly combining incredible colors and prints in a cool, effortless style. But every men’s wardrobe is incomplete without one, be it your father’s old one, a second-hand one bought in vintage shop, a high-street bargain or a luxury one (Lanvin, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana have launched theirs this year).

This was already suggested last year with the 80s Miami Vice style present in all the stores, but some brands have made it their signature style, like Chubbies permanently. Chubbies was created by 3 Stanford students who wanted to relaunch their fathers’ 80s shirts on the market, and it is a success story.

And lets not forget Tom Selleck’s favorite shirts in Magnum!

OutsideOnlineFashion.com has some nice options like Patagonia (with coconut buttons, really!)

Hawaiian vintage shirts are also a great option for men to look cool in color this summer, but the question is how to choose it and how to wear it in a cool way, right?

The first key element in choosing your Hawaiian shirt is choosing the colors. Make sure they suit you and that the motifs combine well in colors. Think harmony.

Combine them with simple well cut basics like shorts or wide-cut navy slacks, a denim jacket to layer it more or even to lighten up a suit, if you dare of course.

Then make sure the cut and style suits you and that you feel good in it. It’ll be easier to wear it if you feel comfortable. On the other hand, it’s a good thing to get out of one’s comfort zone once in a while. People around you will appreciate your audacity!

As we say in I-Dylic, LIFE IS TOO BEAUTIFUL TO DRESS SADLY! Go ahead and embrace you Hawaiian shirt.
